Intel Demos New WiMAX chipset
Intel is working hard on strengthening its grip over the mobile computer market making an important step in that direction on Wednesday, when the giant chip maker announced the completion of its first WiMAX baseband chipset. The new chip will be used for mobile architectures for laptops and various mobile devices. The new WiMAX Connection 2300 platform is basically a combination between Intel`s new chipset design and the already-in-market single-chip, multi-band WiMAX/Wi-Fi radio.
Intel showcased the new chipset during Wednesday`s announcement at the 3G Sean Maloney. The company said that the new chipset will speed the development of mobile WiMAX and help Intel offer more powerful mobile communication platforms. "Our aim with WiMAX is to provide personal anytime/anywhere broadband connectivity," said Intel`s representative during the presentation. Sprint Nextel, a cellular company, said that it will have a WiMAX network ready for use in 2008, and Intel is working around that same timeframe to have the platform ready by then.
By offering WiMAX communication, Intel`s users will be able to communicate using a mobile broadband connection, just like the one people are using at home. This will be a major step forward for the mobile community, and will make the internet accessible in all of its broadband forms everywhere. The computer world is all about mobility these days, and laptops computers are selling much better than desktop ones. Intel is aiming at the most important segment of the computer market, and judging by Intel`s past success, the new platform will be a hit or even become a standard.
