Bogus Anti Spyware Applications Lure Users to Pay

Most internet users already know that spyware and other malicious applications are circling around the web, and that caution is advised. A top online security firm is now saying that bogus anti-spyware makers are using loopholes in the South Korean law to lure people out of their money. These companies are informing internet users that spyware was detected on their machines, usually through some kind of popup window, and ask people to pay for them to remove it.

"In many cases, however, those scanned programs are simply non-existent or cookies that are not really harmful for your computer and can be easily erased," said the source within the security company. With the level of security today, the real anti-spyware programs inform the user on any suspected file, or possible threat, even if the threat is minimal and easy to remove. The bogus programs portray minimal threats as critical, and users often feel that they have no choice but to pay for the removal of the so-called malicious application.

Such programs are usually distributed with free video clips or in blogs, where many people can be exposed to them. The best thing for you to do is use one main anti-spyware program that you trust, and do not listen to any other pop-up window that tells you that you computer is infected. If you are concerned, you can always use your trusted software to run a scan on the system. It`s always good to run scheduled scans so you can make sure your computer is safe and clean.
