Market Research Show Decline in PC Sales, Notebooks Bloom

According to a market research, PC sales are continuously dropping and the growth is decreasing. During the traditionally highest-volume time of the year for computer consumption, the research shows that desktop sales are on a year-over-year drop, when notebooks are only rising in sales numbers. Don`t get it wrong, people are constantly buying new desktops, but the year-over-year increase is dropping. The overall year-over-year increase in computer sales this year was 23% percent.

The number shows that more people bought computers this year, but compared with the year-over-year figure from 2005, 36%, it shows a decline in the current tendency. The prices of notebooks fell from an average of $856 to $708, what might explain the constant rise in demand for notebooks. People are considering buying a notebook instead of a desktop, as the mobile needs of the population are growing. The idea is getting a computer that can also be portable instead of investing in a immobile product. Retailers reported that year-over-year notebooks sales were up to 51.1%. Compared with last year`s figure of 49% it shows that notebook demand is only rising.

With prices constantly dropping it`s expected that this incline will continue over the coming years. Producers are traditionally cutting prices during the holiday season, in an effort to boost sales. A notebook, a product that is more expensive compared with desktop computers, becomes an attractive deal when offered at reduced prices, and people are buying. Overall desktop PC sales during Black Friday amounted to a 7.2 percent drop compared with 2005, and this is rather unexpected. Microsoft is set to launch it`s new version of Windows in January, and it`s possible that users are waiting for the release before purchasing new hardware.
