MySpace Contemplates on Traveling East

The online community sharing site, News Corp`s MySpace, might be going places with News Corp. considering bringing the site to China. MySpace is one of the most popular websites in the world, and the pioneer of today`s community-oriented web platforms. The site offers users to open private profiles, and share their favorite files and interests among other users, forming virtual communities in the process. The site is enjoying huge success and its large virtual communities are hectic and occupied all the time.

News Corp`s Chief Executive, Edward Tian, said on Friday that the company is seriously considering the possibility of offering MySpace to the Chinese public. A new subsidiary called MySpace China will be formed, and News Corp Chairman`s wife, Wendi Deng, is one of the names that were mentioned in relation to board placement. People close to the matter said that although News Corp`s intentions regarding China are now public, there has been no deal as of yet.

China is not the most welcoming internet market. With strict government regulation, a site like MySpace that offers almost total freedom to its users might face harsh initiation. As more details come through, we will learn about the scope of MySpace China and the amount of freedom it will enjoy. Sharing and communicating online under restricting conditions might not be as appealing as the experience that MySpace is currently offering to users. The Chinese online market is growing, and with the largest population in the world, it only seems fit to offer an online community site like MySpace to the Chinese public.
