Google CEO on Apple`s Directors Board


According to Apple Computer`s statement, Eric Schmidt, Google CEO is joining Apple Computer`s board of directors, which will create a close tie between two of Silicon Valley`s most iconic companies. Now that Schmidt is joining the board of California-based Apple the total number of board members will be eight, including Steve Jobs, Apple`s co-founder and CEO, and Al Gore, former vice president of the United States. Other members of the Apple board include the heads of Intuit, J. Crew and Genentech.

According to Apple, Schmidt was elected at a board meeting held on Tuesday. Schmidt also is a member of the board of directors of Mountain View, California-based Google and Princeton University`s board of trustees.

Schmidt said in a statement: "Apple is one of the companies in the world that I most admire. I`m really looking forward to working with Steve (Jobs) and Apple`s board to help with all of the amazing things Apple is doing." Schmidt joined Google from software maker Novell, where he was a chairman and CEO. Previously, he was chief technology officer at Sun Microsystems. He worked as a researcher at Xerox`s Palo Alto Research Center and at Bell Labs and ZiLOG in the early 1980s.
