Open GMail access in Japan

Google, the world`s largest search engine company, announced this Wednesday, August 23rd, that the Japanese language version of it`s e-mailing service, will be offered to anyone who wishes to sign up. Previously, Australia and New Zealand alone where allowed open access to this service, making Japan the third country in line.

GMail, Google`s e-mailing service, was launched in April, 2004. It is available worldwide in more than 40 different languages, offering it`s users a significantly larger data space than other e-mailing services with about 2.7 gigabytes for every user. Although this service is given free of charge, in order to enjoy it, you must be given an invitation from an already exiting user. Alternatively you may access it via your mobile phone. Google is trying to offer sufficient space for GMail users and is continuously working to expand the storage size even further.

Following Google`s success in rising it`s presence in Australia and New Zealand, the company hopes to achieve similar results in Japan. Japan is known to have more people that access the web through their mobile phones rather than through their personal computers. Google`s recent collaboration with the country`s second largest wireless operator, KDDI Corp., is planned to cater to this trend, offering search engines on Mobile phones.
