Youth is Leading Mobile Growth

In a recent Mobile Youth report it was showed that the youth is the most important factor in the mobile technology growth. According to the report, the relationship between young people and mobile technology is critical but often unnoticed. An average 10-year-old will spend almost $30,000 on mobile services in a lifetime, and that is something that must be taken into account.

The report stated that young customers are driving innovations like text messaging, mobile music and mobile radio, and that youth spending on mobile services passed the $100 billion mark in 2006. Although young people are likely to spend less than high-income earners, they represent high value sectors in their lifetimes.
Unrelated industries must accommodate the growth of mobile into existing product development and marketing or risk losing out on $10 billion annual growth in mobile spending. Companies can attract youth by enhancing the social utility value of mobile phones, for instance. Youth spending on data services is almost half of all mobile spending in most mature markets, and these facts should really be considered by the mobile developers.
