Veterans` Data Disappears Again

Another desktop computer had disappeared from Unisys, a subcontractor of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The computer contained personal data on about 38,000 U.S. military veterans. And this is not the first case when sensitive data is being stolen.

Two teenagers were arrested by the authorities in the theft of a laptop and hard drive containing sensitive data on 26.5 million veterans and military personnel. The equipment, which was stolen on May 3, was returned to authorities on June 28.

In the new case, the data on the stolen computer may include names, addresses, Social Security numbers and dates of birth. The data do not contain personal financial information, said Unisys in a statement, however it may include patients` insurance carriers and billing information, dates of military service and claims information that may include some medical information. Unisys said it started a "comprehensive search and investigation" and was working with the law enforcement agencies investigating the incident.
