70 Million Free iTunes Songs by Apple
Apple Computer and Coca-Cola will give away in Europe about 70 million songs on its iTunes Music Store. Previously, Apple had worked together with Coke`s rival PepsiCo for a giveaway of 100 million songs in the United States.
70 million song codes will be distributed inside packs of Coca-Cola and Diet Coke in Britain that can be redeemed for tracks at the iTunes store, where they usually sell for $1.47 (79 pence) each. In Germany, Coke will give away 67,000 iTunes songs and 1,500 iPod portable music players. Other European countries` campaigns will follow soon.
The Coke-Apple`s working together comes weeks after Coke closed its MyCokeMusic service, one of the first European download stores. Since the launch of iTunes in Europe, the service`s market share had slipped into insignificance. Chris Burggraeve, Coca-Cola`s director of marketing for the European Union, said: "Mycokemusic.com was the first to the market, but we`ve decided that everybody is great at something. Apple is undeniably the leader in this field."
