Tech Becomes a Girl`s Best Friend
As it was showed by a recent US survey, which was commissioned by Oxygen Network, women, no less than men, appreciate technology. So a girl`s best friend now is a plasma TV, and not diamonds, as Marilyn Monroe sang in her famous song. It was found in the survey that around 75 percent of women would prefer to buy or receive as a gift technology items, rather than jewelry, vacation or clothes. Even shoes lost out. The study found 86 percent would prefer a new digital video camera to a pair of expensive shoes. This way the technology gender gap, which existed between the two sexes, was closed.
Women were found on average to own 6.6 technology devices while men own 6.9, and four out of every five women felt comfortable using technology with 46 percent doing their own computer trouble-shooting.
Geraldine Laybourne, chairman and chief executive of Oxygen Network said: "People make the assumption that women are not as advanced as men when it comes to technology and I was surprised at the parity men and women now have in terms of technology". She also said that the increase in women interest in technology will continue further on.
