Fedora Tries To Attract Women

The well-known fedora community, an open-source project, has recently launched "Fedora women", to promote itself among female users. "A large portion of the Fedora user base is made up of women. They are often under-represented within the community, with many people not even realizing how big a share of the community they are. The Fedora Women program aims to improve that representation and to provide a forum for the women of the Fedora community," the group said.

Now the women of the Fedora community can enjoy their own forum with relevant discussion topics and mailing list. This way they can get in touch with one another more effectively and without any distractions.

The free and open-source software community members had reacted lively to the project`s launch. Some readers claim that encouraging people to develop free and open-source software (FOSS) will not help, and that does not depend on the person`s gender. The idea is not new, however, as other similar projects have tried in the past to increase female participation. Will this time be more successful?
