Microsoft Competes Apple`s iPod With Zune


Microsoft had finally stated, Confirming weeks of rumors, that it is about to launch music software and players under the Zune brand. Chris Stephenson, a general manager of marketing for the software maker, said: "Today we confirmed a new music and entertainment project called Zune. Under the Zune brand, we will deliver a family of hardware and software products, the first of which will be available this year."

At start, the device will have Wi-Fi music will be stored on a hard drive. It will probably also use wireless connectivity to share music with other Zune devices, such as video player.

This is not the first time Microsoft is trying first to compete with iTunes and iPod. However, until now the company has mostly relied on partners to make the players and software that use its Windows Media digital rights technology and tie into the Windows Media Player software built into the Windows operating system. Nevertheless, in order to beat Apple, Microsoft will have to do more than just add its brand name to a music player.
