Research and Markets Industry Profile
Research and Markets has released their Industry Profile, and now includes Internet Access, Web Hosting, and Design in their offering. The new profile shows that there are about 4,000 companies, with combined annual revenue of $30 billion, in the US Internet services industry. Large companies include AOL, Microsoft, EarthLink, Verizon, Comcast, and SBC. Starting as a collection of small companies, the industry is now highly concentrated: the 50 largest companies hold about 80 percent of the market, the four largest companies hold more than 50 percent.
Another chapter of the Profile addresses the Competitive Landscape. Demand is driven by consumer and business demands for information. The profitability of individual companies depends heavily on volume and efficient operations, as most costs are fixed. Big Internet service providers have large economies of scale in operations, purchasing, and marketing. Small companies can compete successfully by serving small markets or providing technical expertise to customers.
Research and Markets synthesize information from hundreds of sources into an easy to digest format, giving invaluable information about target markets, highlighting critical industry statistics and issues, changes that have taken place since the last quarterly update and key concerns that can have negative or positive impacts on investments.
