Apple has Surprise Up its Sleeve

A long-rumored new iPod from Apple Computer Inc. could be the surprise to be revealed during a special event the company is sponsoring October 12th. Media reporters have been invited to witness the unveiling. This new iPod is speculated to have the ability to display videos. Early last month, Apple unveiled its pencil-thin iPod nano, capable of holding 1,000 songs.

The invitation from Apple, which is notoriously tight-lipped about future products, says simply: `One more thing...,` a phrase used in the past by Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs at conferences and events when announcing major new products.

AppleInsider, a fan Web site of the computer maker, speculates the October 12th announcement could be the rumored video iPod. An AppleInsider post says, `Apple Computer has begun production of a new version of its iPod digital music player that will be capable of playing videos, AppleInsider has learned. Sources who claim to have seen the new iPod describe it as being similar to Apple`s 60 GB iPod photo player, but several millimeters thinner.`
