iPods send Apple revenues soaring
The growing popularity of portable music players has helped Apple to achieve what CEO Steve Jobs says is the company`s best-ever quarter, as iPod sales accounted for a good portion of the $320 million in sales for the quarter including June 25, compared to $61 million at the same time last year.
Sales surged 75% to a current annual total of $3.52 billion, fuelled by a six-fold increase in sales of iPods since the third quarter of 2004. The company also shipped 1.2 million Macintosh computers during the last quarter.
The latest earnings report was released after the close of NASDAQ trading on Wednesday.
