US Olympic Committee Likes Los Angeles

Two American cities remain competing on the US bid to host the 2016 Olympic Summer games. Although no decision was made yet, and no decision will be made until April, the US Olympic Committee officials who have visited the city of Los Angeles for a two day tour last week said they were impressed with it. The advantages listed by the evaluation team include the facilities already in place that are already in Olympic standards and the entertainment industry, which can help promote the event, mainly among younger audience.

Chicago, the other US city competing for hosting the games, is hoping to win the bid. LA has already hosted the games twice in the past, in 1932 and 1984, and has a problematic transportation situation. The committee will visit Chicago next week. April 14 is the date by which one will be picked.

The fact that the city has hosted the games in the past is ?a factor. It`s a factor that would have to be overcome,? as the USOC evaluation team chair said. As per the facilities, they were not surprised by the city?s readiness. The problem remains the infamous traffic jams of Southern California and the lack of good public transportation to serve athletes and audience in passing the distances between facilities. It remains a hurdle, though the city mayor summed it up as a no brainer, saying ?We expect we will be able to handle the traffic.?
