Lakers on a Losing Streak

Winning the Most Valuable Player Award of the All Star game may have been a pleasing moment for Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant. It has, however, been a rare moment of success, as the Lakers have lost six straight games starting before the All Star break and continuing still with their return to the second part of the season. It has also been a rare - in fact a career worst - losing streak for coach Phil Jackson, who in 16 seasons of coaching has never lost as many as six straight games.

Falling to the Portland Trail Blazers 112-108 at the Staples Center had the Lakers comment on the situation with somewhat harsh words. ?I think we deserve it,? Coach Jackson said. The fans did not sit idle either, with boos sounding in the crowd at the end of the disappointing game. The Lakers are 30-25 so far in the season and have surprised may in showing strong prospects for a post season run as well. For that, however, they will have to regain their form, including playing better defense. The Blazers shot 59.7% from the field in the game.

Although the team was rumored to be talking trade with the New Jersey Nets to acquire point guard Jason Kidd, they have passed the trade deadline with no actions taken. Spirits are still high, as expressed in Jackson?s answer to what his goal is for the remainder of the season: ?Undefeated? starting tonight.? Well, maybe tonight it will start.
