Wade Phillips is Cowboys New Coach
Bill Pacells did not win the nickname The Big Tuna for nothing. He is considered as one of football?s greatest coaches, leading the New York Giants and the New England Patriots to Super Bowl appearances (winning Super Bowl XXI with the Giants). When he was brought out of retirement in 2003 to coach the Dallas Cowboys ? America?s Team ? hopes were high for a return of the team to the spot light and success. The spot light was indeed directed at the team more with Parcells behind the lines, but success was another story altogether.
Team owner and general manager has replaced Parcells with Wade Phillips, after the coach of the last four years announced his retirement, again, for the fourth time in his career. ?It didn`t work,? Jones said of the years under Parcells, during which the team won zero playoff games. ?We had some success, but at the end of the day we did not have the kind of success we wanted.?
With the new coach in control, of course with the active involvement of Jones, the team is expected to change its defensive scheme and work on developing the promising young quarterback Tony Romo. With no less than seven Cowboys playing in the Pro Ball this week, the team has a strong lineup to improve in the coming season. If they fail doing so, Phillips will end up where Parcells has ended up, no longer receiving Jones? paychecks, and not even with a famous nickname.
