Favre Back for another Season

Brett Favre announced he will return for the 2007 season as the Green Bay Packers? quarterback, for his 17th pro season. The announcement to the media came after he told the team of his intention to put off his retirement, which was expected by the football world as was hinted by him during the previous season. The memorable image of Favre shedding tears at the end of the final game against the Chicago Bear, a 26-7 loss, was one such sign, but the player has not waited long to reach the announcement.

Favre, the only three-time MVP in NFL history, has also played in two Superbowls with the Packers, winning one of them. He will have the chance in his 17th season to continue his record of consecutive starts among active quarterbacks, currently standing at 257 including playoffs. He is also one win away from tying the NFL record for most wins, with 147, behind John Elway. Last season the Packers finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs. Favre threw for 18 touchdowns and 18 interceptions during the season.

"I am so excited about coming back," Favre said. The Packers are happy not only with Favre?s return, but also with the timing of the decision. Last year he waited until April to make the decision to play another season. Now the team has the quarterback position confirmed as it tries to build around the young nucleus of players that have played competitive football in 2006.
