Is the Olympics 2012 Site a Ticking Bomb?
As if the organizers of the English 2012 Olympics haven?t got enough on their plate as it is, a new worry has come up in the latest report created for the London Development Agency in the form of unexploded WWII bombs.
During the war, the German Luftwaffe dropped thousands of bombs over the capital of the U.K, London. Of the 1500 bombs that were thrown in the east region of London, 200 of them never detonated.
This particular area was targeted by the Germans because of its proximity to the London docks ? a crucial part of the English war efforts. ?I believe it was Hitler`s own personal goal to strangle London by targeting docks,? said the author of the report. And now, 60 years later, the past is coming back to haunt authorities. The area that has been set aside to build the stadium for the 2012 Olympics is deemed ?highly dangerous?, as there may still be unexploded bombs in the zone.
The London Development Agency has said that they had taken the cost of cleaning the area into account when budgeting for the Olympic Games. London is expected to attract millions of visitors during the Games and of course is not willing to risk anything going wrong, especially the explosion of bombs. A worker for the LDA said that they are leaving nothing to chance and experts are already scanning the area.
