England`s First Game at New Wenbley vs. Brazil
England`s National Soccer team under the control of Steve McLaren, refuses to even conceder not making it to the Euro 2008 championship, and for that reason it is preparing for a difficult test in its upgraded Wembley Stadium, where the tam hasn`t played in the past 7 years. The team is planning on inaugurating the stadium in its June 1st game against Brazil. The British press announced Wednesday. Wembley is the largest roof-covered football stadium in the world and is arguably the world`s most famous football stadium. In 2002, the original structure was demolished and construction began on the new stadium, originally intended to open in 2006.
The English will challenge the former World Cup holder, in a friendship match, in preparation for its game against Estonia, 5 days later. For Brazil this game is especially important, as their games against England are always interesting, and are supposed to be a good preparation for Coppa America games to be held in Venezuela in the summer. Brazil`s national team has played in the old Wembley Stadium 7 times, with the last game ending with a 1:1 tie. England hasn`t played Brazil since their 2002 World Cup meeting in Japan.
"We`re delighted to be able to announce that Brazil will be the first team to take on England at the new Wembley," Brian Barwick, an FA chief executive said. "It`s a fantastic match to mark the team`s return to the stadium after nearly seven years on the road around the country. Brazil featured in some memorable matches at the old Wembley. I`m confident there will be many new memories created there for England fans over the coming years."
