Miami loss ends streak of poll appearances

Miami fell from the college football AP rankings after losing Saturday in Louisville 31-7. The loss places them out of the top 25 college football teams in the nation, ending a streak of 107 consecutive weeks of poll appearances. The Texas Longhorns (No. 7) now hold the longest current streak, at 96 weeks, dating back to 2000.

The rankings of the past 107 weeks proved week after week that the Hurricanes are a college football powerhouse. They spent 88 of those weeks among the nation`s top 10, including 34 weeks as the nation`s top ranked team. The average ranking during the streak was No. 5. "That doesn`t really change anything," Miami coach Larry Coker said Sunday. "The poll didn`t help us yesterday and the poll won`t help us tomorrow. Doesn`t change anything."

Ohio State is maintaining some sort of streak, namely by holding on to No. 1 for the fourth straight week. The Buckeyes received 59 first-place votes from a panel of 65 media members. Three teams have held to the No. 2 spot this year, as Auburn assumes the spot this week after Notre Dame and Texas have already held it earlier in the season.
