NFL Commissioner Discuss Drug Problem and Other Issues

Due to an alarming increase in the number of performance-enhancing materials in the market, and the fact that masking agents are currently quite efficient, the NFL and its union are discussing strengthening their control over drugs and to better their drug program as well. Roger Goodell, the commissioner, said at a press conference that he already discussed the issue with Gene Upshaw, the head of the NFL Players Association.

They are currently debating on increasing the number of tests, and the number of substances that they look for. There are new substances in use, and they are looking to make the test more efficient. "I think we`ve got a lot of great experts who will be able to work with this," Goodell said. "We`ve always been at the front of the line in drug testing and I think we will continue."

Goodell said that he plans to visit all 32 teams, as he entered office just recently. He also elaborated on other NFL related issues such as a possible wiring of players that are not quarterbacks, and that he does not expect the NFL to grow any larger than its current formation of 32 clubs.
