Woods Secured PGA Player of the Year Award
As if winning a fifth straight time isn`t enough, Tiger Woods clinched the PGA Player of the Year award following his seventh victory. This is woods` eight PGA Player of the Year award in his 10 years of playing at the PGA Tour. Woods` only missed two awards, at 1998 when Mark O`Meara took the title, and in 2004 when Vijay Singh had the upper hand.
The PGA Player of the Year award is a based upon the number of points that a player accumulates. Each player gets 30 points for wining a major, 20 for the Players Championship and 10 for all other PGA Tour victories he might collect. A player that wins two majors is awarded with a 50-point bonus. There are more points given for a sliding scale for the scoring average and money list, totaling at 20 points.
A simple mathematical calculation shows that with nine tournaments left in this season, woods` title is guaranteed. Woods`s scoring average which stands on 68.30 means that he has a commanding lead in the race for the Vardon Trophy as well. There`s more coming from Woods this season, as we all know that Woods is a multi-title player each year.
