Angola to Host African Nations Cup 2010
The 2010 African Nations Cup finals will be hosted by Angola, who won the right to host the occasion as the Confederation of African Football declared on Monday. The following tournaments will be hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea in 2012, while the 2014 games will be held in Libya. This is an unusual step by the CAF which awarded losing countries the right to hold the tournament.
The decision makes Angola the first Portuguese-speaking country to host the tournament. There are plans of building new structures and stadiums that will host the games. Angola will also revamp the Cidadela stadium in the capital, Luanda, and will undergo a massive reconstruction in the country to prepare for the occasion.
Gabon decided that their infrastructure is inadequate for hosting this year`s eight-team African women`s championship and withdraw from the bid. They did offer venues to the 2012 events that will be hosted in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon including Bata and Malabo and Libreville and Port Gentil. Libya is also preparing for the events, after losing their bids in 2004, 2006 and 2008.
