Chelsea Releases a Statement Regarding Gallas

There are several legitimate ways for a soccer player to encourage a transfer from his club, but the means that William Gallas, Chelsea`s French defender, chose to take are clearly not one of those. Chelsea is clamming that Gallas had threatened to score an own goal during club games and even refused to play entirely, before being transferred to Arsenal.

Taking an unprecedented step, the Premiership championship, decided to issue a statement regarding the matter, and no inform their fans about Gallas` lack of respect and un-sportsmanship behavior. The statement elaborates on the cause of the incident and reads as follows: "Chelsea believes it is important for our supporters to be made aware of the full facts regarding William Gallas and the lack of respect he showed to the fans, the manager and the club?the issue was purely one of money, despite his public comments that he wanted a new challenge, to play abroad and so forth. These were just a smokescreen to cover up the fact he was hawking himself to the highest bidder."

The statement then discusses the fact that Gallas refused to play against Liverpool, and how the incident developed. Reading the statement, you can understand why the club asked Gallas to make public the reasons for leaving the club, and how things turned out.
