Foreign Control Over British Clubs Worries UEFA
UEFA is not happy in the way things are being conducted in England, and has called the British Government to investigate the growing phenomena of foreign interests influencing British Clubs. Foreign investors drive their money into the clubs and change the order of things ?something the UEFA will not allow-.
Kia Joorabchian, a foreign businessperson, along with several other investors was named as the potential new owners of the British soccer club, West Ham. UEFA does not want investors, which are not from Britain to have control over British clubs, and calls the government to investigate such matters. Currently there are several clubs already under foreign control, with Manchester United and Aston Villa, two of the most famous and successful soccer clubs in Britain, are under American control.
UEFA director of communications William Gaillard has raised concern and said, "We certainly are concerned by what is going on because it seems to be following a worrying pattern." UEFA believes that something is wrong when British teams are not under British control, as each league and club are associated with a specific country and follow specific code and regulations.
