Soccer World Mourns the Death of Glenn ?Mooch? Myernick

US soccer fans and players joined together to mourn the untimely death of Men?s National Team Assistant Coach Glenn ?Mooch? Myernick. Mooch was only 51 years old when he suffered a massive heart attack last week and died surrounded by his wife, Nancy and children, Kelly and Travis, at North Suburban Medical Center in Colorado.

Mooch began playing soccer at Hartwick College (Oneota, New York) where he won the Hermann Trophy for the most outstanding player in 1976. Mooch played in the North American Soccer League with a number of teams, before going on to join the National Team where he accumulated 10 caps in a brilliant soccer career. He then went on to coach the under-20 and the under-23 National Teams, bringing them a wealth of success over the years. In the previous two World Cup events, Mooch assisted the teams, bringing the 2002 team to the semi-finals of soccer?s most prestigious tournament. He was also coach for the 2000-2004 US Olympic soccer team.

Everybody who ever came into contact with Glen ?Mooch? Myernick only had good things to say about this US soccer icon. Although he achieved enormous prestige and adulation in soccer circles, he remained a dedicated family man with a passion for life. Most agree that Mooch will be sorely missed, both as a well-loved figure and as a great resource for the soccer industry in the United States.
