Cech recovers from operation

Saturday`s collision between Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech and Reading`s Stephen Hunt sent Cech to the hospital in serious condition, Hunt to the press denying intention and many other vocal commentators arguing the incident. Arsenal`s boss, Arsene Wenger, was the latest of them, warning that keepers could be killed unless protected better by the game rules.

Wenger said there had been four instances in the past six months in which goalkeepers had been badly injured. The incidents "cannot be coincidence," Wenger said. Chelsea got a good scare Saturday as their backup keeper Carlo Cudicini was also taken off the field on a stretcher, this time after a collision with Ibrahima Sonko.

Meanwhile, Cech who had fractured his skull is recovering in the hospital after undergoing an operation. He is fully conscious and his condition is improving, according to the Chelsea official website. Arsenal`s keeper Jens Lehmann also voiced concern about goalkeepers` safety, saying someone could end up in a wheelchair if they were not protected.
