Giants rush past Falcons for a win
The New York Giants beat the Atlanta Falcons 27-14 in a game Sunday that had several interesting side stories. Beating Atlanta at their own game (Atlanta is the best running team in the NFL), the Giants` Tiki Barber rushed for 185 yards. He had nine runs on which he gained 12 yards or more, against a Falcons` defense that had averaged a league second-best 69.3 yards per game.
On the fifth game of what was talked about as a break-out season for Falcons` quarterback Michael Vick, he completed only 14-27 passes for 154 yards. The Giants` pounded Vick, sacked him seven times and forced an interception and four fumbles, of which three were recovered. Vick`s 14 completions were a season high.
Giants` quarterback Eli manning went 17-30 for 180 yards. He opened the game slow, throwing two interceptions in the fist quarter, but at the end of the day produced enough of an offense to support Barber. Compared to Vick`s season stats, Manning`s 17 completions were his lowest of the year.
