Woods to rest, give golfers a break

The numbers put up by golf master Tiger Woods are incredible. Woods has matched the second-longest winning streak in PGA history, six straight tournaments. But before golfers despair, Woods announced he is going on vacation, finally giving others a chance to win a tournament. "I`m getting away for a little bit," Woods said. "As far as golf, I`ve had enough of it for a while."

It has been an emotional year for Woods. Earlier in 2006 he lost his father, Earl, who dies of cancer at 74 years of age. In the summer he spent three tiring weeks in Europe, where the U.S. team he played on lost to the Europeans in the Ryder Cup, earning them waves of criticism. But even in his own words, Woods is having a good time. "It`s fun when you can control your golf ball that well."

The passing away recently of golf legend Lord Byron, who holds the record with 11 straight tournament wins, reminds many that Woods is well on his way to challenging this feat. Woods, never showy and always humble, is staying away and not addressing the issue. At 30, golf fans can only sit and watch what next the young phenomenon will do. For now other golfers have a chance to win too.
