Harrison is healthy to defend his featherweight title

Featherweight boxing champion Scott Harrison has been cleared to defend his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) title. He will meet Nicky Cook of Britain in the rink next month. Medical examinations cleared Harrison for the fight, following a five week sentence he served in a Spanish prison of assault charges. Fighting Cook next month would save Harrison from having his belt stripped.

The fight between Harrison, 29 of Scotland, and Cook, 27, a former British, European and Commonwealth champion is scheduled to take place in London on December 9. Following the physical and psychological approval, the date is expected to be finalized by both sides.

Harrison failed to defend his title in May. He has instead sought help for an alcohol problem and depression. In total, Harrison has been absent from the boxing world for 12 months. Cook was delighted to be given the chance to win the title from Harrison with his own gloves. "To be honest, I`ve trained up until now with the mindset that the fight has always been on," he said. Harrison, on the other hand, will have the title to defend, as well as his pride.
