Nomar signs with dodgers for two more years
The baseball off season has already seen the fifth largest contract signed this week, with Alfonso Soriano joining the Chicago Cubs ? an eight year deal worth $136 million. On Monday, six-time All-Star Nomar Garciaparra agreed to stay with the Los Angeles Dodgers for another two years. He will earn $16 million in salaries and a $2.5 million signing bonus.
Garciaparra, 33, was the National League comeback player of the year following long recovery from an injury. The former Red Sox shortstop has also moved to first base last season. His fielding was phenomenal, committing only 4 errors for a .996 percentage. He hit .303 with 93 RBI and 20 home runs. Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said of Nomar: ?Players and people like Nomar are difficult to find."
The New York Yankees have reached a preliminary agreement with free agent pitcher Mike Mussina on a two-year, $23 million contract. Mussina, who is 38, has completed a 6 year, $88.5 million contract with the Yankees. The Cincinnati Reds signed a multiyear contract with shortstop Alex Gonzales, who will leave the Red Sox after one season on the team. Free agent slugger Moises Alou, 40, agreed to a one-year, $8.5 million contract with the New York Mets.
