Federer masters the season, tennis world

The Tennis Masters cup ended in Shanghai on Sunday. On top of the tournament, and the tennis world as a whole, again stands Roger Federer. The Swiss has won his third Masters cup in four years after beating American James Blake 6-0, 6-3, 6-4 in the finals in a little over an hour and a half. It is Federer`s 12th title of the year in 16 final appearances. He made it to the finals of all but one tournament he participated in.

The title will pay Federer $1.52 million, which brings his annual income from tennis to $8.34 million. He is also guaranteed setting another record, of being ranked No. 1 for the longest consecutive period, when in February he will pass Jimmy Connors who holds the current record of 160 weeks. Federer has been no. 1 since February 2, 2004.

Blake, who beat Rafael Nadal in his group and David Nalbandian in the semi finals, was not able to stop Federer on his way to another title. "He played too good. I`ve probably run out of adjectives to describe him on the court to talk about his excellence," Blake said.
