British Sprinter, Chambers, Makes Switch to American Football

Many athletes these days are switching from one sport to another as changes in age or lifestyle affect their careers. Not too long ago, seven time Tour de France winner, cyclist Lance Armstrong switched to long distance running when he entered the recent New York Marathon. Athletic hurdler, Renaldo Nehemiah also took a different path when he joined the San Francisco 49ers US football team. The latest player to consider a career move is British sprinter, Dwain Chambers who is also considering US football and is due to take part in an NFL Europe training camp in Cologne.

Chambers was banned from athletics for a two year period after testing positive for the steroid THG. Before that, the 28-year old enjoyed a promising career after winning the 4x100m European championships. He revealed his dream to try another sport after winning a relay race in Gothenburg this August.

Dwain Chambers says that American football has always interested him. If he is successful in the training camp, he could be invited to attend a camp in Florida where NFL franchises come to recruit players. Chambers will be worked out at the wide receiver and cornerback positions during his training camp in Germany. Tony Allen, Director of International Player Development for NFL Europa said: "He is obviously an outstanding athlete and has potential that we are eager to explore."
