Beckham to find solace in the US?
David Beckham, 31, has suffered a psychological blow after being cut from the English national team, said his coach in Real Madrid, Fabio Capello. Steve McClaren`s decision was a hard blow to the soccer star and world pop-icon, but Beckham is now on his way back into shape, his coach believes. But talk around the soccer world has Beckham playing elsewhere next year after his contract with Real expires.
Capello said he would like to have Beckham on the team, and has advised the club to resign the midfielder, but not at any price. Beckham does not and likely will not have a permanent spot on the team under Capello. This will affect both the club`s willingness to pay Beckham the money he demands and the player`s willingness to stay with the club. The English player has demanded an increased share of the profits coming into the club off selling his image, jerseys and name.
Meanwhile across the Atlantic, Major League Soccer chiefs see this as a ?terrific? opportunity to bring Beckham to play in the American league. The Los Angeles Galaxy is considered most serious in its pursuit of the player. To have Beckham play on any MLS team, the league would have to change the salary cap rules, as Beckham would earn much more than the total $1.9 million salary cap.
