Klinsmann candidate for US team coach

The United States Soccer Federation confirmed its interest in Jurgen Klinsmann as head coach for the national team. Klinsmann, who has led the German national team to the World cup semi finals this past summer - a team that was characterized by an up-tempo, offensive style ? is one of only five finalists for the job.

Klinsmann said last week that he had held talks with federation president Sunil Gulati. Gulati in turn was full of praise for Klinsmann in press interviews. Klinsmann has previously expressed his interest in the position, but may have some trouble accepting the job. Klinsmann has close links to Adidas, and the U.S. team is sponsored by Nike.

The USSF has made another decision this week, announcing that for the first time since 1995, the national team will play at the Copa America. The biennial regional tournament is the showcase event for South America`s national teams. The Copa America will be played in the summer of 2007 in Venezuela.
