Winning is tiresome for Federer
The world`s top tennis player Roger Federer has announced he would withdraw from this week`s Masters Series event in Paris. The Swiss phenomenon, who has won 11 titles this year, including two in the past two weeks, cited exhaustion. He is expected to play at the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai, which starts in two weeks.
Federer`s last two titles came in Madrid and his hometown Basel. He decision to recuperate is understandable, even sensible. Many players are feeling tired and suffering of injuries around this time of the year. As a matter of fact, half of the top 10 players have already pulled out of Paris.
By pulling out of the Paris event, Federer joins his biggest rival on the tennis courts, Spaniard Rafael Nadal. The world No. 2 has announced he is suffering of an abdominal injury, but hopes it will not keep him out of the Shanghai Masters. Third ranked David Nalbandian of Argentina, fourth ranked Croatian Ivan Ljubicic, and sixth seed American Andy Roddick had all withdrawn, citing illnesses and injuries. We`ll see them in China a week from Sunday.
