Reports Saying Rooney Will Play for England

A report published on Saturday indicates that England striker Wayne Rooney could be fit in time to help England realize their World Cup aspirations. Rooney is considered England`s most lethal front man, and his injured a few weeks ago causes many worries for England. Now it seems that Rooney will be in good shape for England`s opening match against Paraguay on June 10.

The Sun quoted an unnamed England source as saying: ?It is pretty well known in the camp Wayne is way ahead of schedule - but why tell the opposition?? Rooney is set to have another scan on his injured right foot on Thursday, the result of which should confirm whether how fit he is to play. In the meantime, England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson will rely on Liverpool striker Peter Crouch and Newcastle?s Michael Owen in the first group matches.

Meanwhile Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said he would be prepared to move up a notch from midfield to help plug the gap left by Rooney if so required by Eriksson. Gerrard has been deployed in an advanced role for his club with mixed results this season, but feels it is a tactic that could prove useful.
