Steroid Tests Now Available for Public
Steroid testes are no longer limited for professional athletes alone. The general public can now order anabolic steroid tests, and amateur athletes, coaches or even parents can order them. The national public service for steroid testing will be carried by MMS Quick Results of Las Vegas. The costs of the tests is approximately $179.00 and requires samples of urine to be mailed to the labs with results in approximately 3 to 4 weeks.
Recently steroids have become known through the media because of professional athletes who use steroids for performance enhancement in sports. Abuse of anabolic steroids, however, can lead to serious health problems, some of which are irreversible. Anabolic-androgenic steroids are man-made drugs that mimic body reactions similar to male sex hormones. "Anabolic" refers to muscle-building, and "androgenic" refers to increased masculine characteristics. "Steroids," in general terms, refers to the class of drugs. These drugs are available legally only by prescription to treat conditions that occur when the body produces abnormally low amounts of testosterone, such as delayed puberty and some types of impotence. However, they are also prescribed to treat body wasting in patients with AIDS and other diseases that result in the loss of lean muscle mass.
"We want to make it clear that our tests are not for common prescription steroids such as topical creams to treat rashes and other immune enhancement remedies," says Robert Greene, Project Development Manager for SteroidTesting USA. "These (creams) are cortisteroids. Corticosteroids, reduces inflammation and increases immune response". "Steroids present in a persons urine could signal a serious medical condition the reason why we are not providing interpretation measures. MMS Quick Results will rely upon and strongly urge individuals to consult with their physicians if any positive measures are shown in their results," says Greene. Clients also must sign a statement confirming that they are above the age of 18 years and their own urine is being tested.
