Squalicum Held Off by North Central

Eric Beal, senior guard, scored 21 points recently at the state 3A boys basketball tournament, to beat Squalicum 61-47 in a loser-out, consolation-round game. What a performance and what a win!

The Storm (15-12) got 22 points from junior guard Royal Prendergast, who finished the tournament with 41. Squalicum hit seven 3-pointers, four by Prendergast, but were just 12-for-23 from the free-throw line.

Beal scored 34 points over the first two days of the tournament. Damal Neal added 10 points for North Central (20-5), which advanced to the consolation semifinals Friday morning. The Indians bounced back from a tough one point loss to O?Dea on Wednesday by leading easily for most of the game. They stayed ahead largely behind 24-for-28 free-throw shooting.
