Portugal to Appeal Deco`s Red Card
We all knew that the match between Portugal and Netherlands that turned into a violent and disorganized clash between the players of the two teams would not be forgotten. Luiz Felipe Scolari, coach for Portugal, said on Monday that team officials plan to apple against the red card handed to Deco in the stormy second half of the game. Deco did not commit any felony, and Scolari needs him to play against England.
Portugal will face England on Saturday on World Cup`s quarterfinals stage, and Deco is one of Portugal`s playmakers. Costinha was also handed a red card and will not play in the game, but Portugal will only appeal for Deco. `We accept that we made some disciplinary mistakes, but we cannot accept in any way the red card for Deco,` Portugal officials said. `The Portuguese Football Federation, on the basis of the FIFA Fair Play documents, will put in a request to overturn the card for Deco,` they added.
Almost all parties involved in the game were heavily criticized. Form the referee who could not control the players up to both coaches who did not try to stop the mayhem on the field. The game will be remembered in World Cup`s history as one of the most violent matches with 16 yellow cards and 4 red ones.
