FIA Announced Three-Year Freeze on Engine Development

The Formula One`s governing body is looking forward a greener future. Max Mosley, president of International Automobile Federation spoke about engine development and that a three-year freeze would come into force as previously announced from 2008. The freeze is done, it`s in the regulations, no further discussion," he said in a press conference.

Saving fuel, saving energy is absolutely fundamental," declared Mosley. He believes that if engine rules are nailed down, then more manufacturers will be drawn into the sports and everyone will benefit. However, some manufacturers that are already in the sports strongly object, and Toyota and Honda could pull out in protest.

The FIA is looking for a new "fuel efficiency engine" for 2011. A new lightweight system harnessing waster energy from the brakes to provide extra horsepower will be introduced in 2009 and the FIA wants further developments in that area. "For that we would need the major car manufacturers to propose the formula," he added.
