Sweden Ties With England and Will Meet Germany
England secured its place as winner of group B and managed to avoid a titans` clash with Germany in the next round by drawing a tie with Sweden on Tuesday. England`s top striker, Michal Owen, was injured after 2 minutes of play in what seems as a serious injury that will affect his World Cup future. Sven-Goran Eriksson replaced the injured Owen with Crouch, but that was not enough and England did not look good.
A tie was good enough for England and that`s why Eriksson chose to put a less-offensive alignment. Although England was better in the first half and scored their first goal after 34 minutes, the second half was completely Sweden`s. Sweden scored on the 54th minute and tied 1-1. Steven Gerrard gave England the lead again in the 85th minute, but the offensive Swedes kept the die with another goal right at the 90th minute.
Joe Cole`s first goal in the 32nd minute was one of the best goals in the tournament so far. Cole stopped the ball in min air and shot it brilliantly into the Sweden`s goal. Sweden remained with 5 points and came in second in the group. This means that Sweden will meet Germany on Saturday, and they will have to work very as Germany seems very confidant.
