U.S Fights Italy by the Teeth for Draw

The United States soccer team is not considered one of the best teams around, if to say the least, but on Saturday, they showed that they were serious. With only 9 players against 10 of Italy`s (the game was ridden by red cards as players from both teams displayed uncalled for behavior) they managed to fight off the great Italy. Moreover, with the scored kept on 1-1 the United States is still in the picture.

Czech Republic lost their game against the surprisingly powerful Ghana, and that means that everything is open in Group E and Ghana, Italy and the U.S are in a position to play in the next stage of World Cup. The United States will have to beat Ghana on their next game in order to be one of the 16 teams that will play in the next stage of Germany 2006.

The game did not play smoothly and the referee was not willing to put up with any of the unsportsmanlike display that both teams showed. The game was crucial of Italy and the U.S and the tension on the field was well observed. Italy remained with 10 plays and the U.S found themselves with 9 plays alone on the field. The U.S showed the will was enough and Italy was not able to score a decisive goal.
