FIFA Website: Rooney Gets Green Light


After having his broken foot examined on Wednesday, it is now final ? Wayne Rooney will be fit to play for England. Although England will face Paraguay today for their opening Group B match, Rooney will not be able to attend and will only join his teammates for the second stage of World Cup. There has not been any official word from the English Football Association, but FIFA`s website has released a statement regarding Rooney`s condition.

Rooney left the hospital without commenting about neither the scan nor its results. Sven-Goran Eriksson, England`s coach, has asked Rooney before to keep his a lid over this medical condition and his chances to play for England in Germany. It is still unknown when will Rooney actually join the England team, but starting World Cup`s second stage Eriksson can play the Rooney card.

There were many comments made following Rooney`s scan, as England player are hoping that the young striker will play beside them in Germany. "A player of Wayne Rooney`s quality would get into any team in the world," England midfielder Frank Lampard said in Germany. "So we want him to be fit and we hope he is." "It will be a disappointment, obviously, but we`ll press on and we`ll have to get on with it," Terry said. "The performances we showed back in England, I think that`s only encouraged us."
