Giants Beat Marlins 2-1 With Schmidt Reaching Club Record
Jason Schmidt gave a brilliant performance during the Giants` last game on Tuesday by reaching a 102-year-old club record with 16 strikeouts. Schmidt helped the Giants beat the Florida Marlins 2-1. "That`s a highlight of my career, coming in here and getting that reception from the guys," Schmidt said. "That surprised me. I guess because I was so locked into the game," said the new record owner.
The 71-year-old Felipe Alou didn`t want to interfere with Schmidt`s running success and left the team`s fate in his hands. The old skipper said, ""It was his game, 16 strikeouts, it was that kind of performance. You don`t want to put your hands on that. ... It`s been a while since I`ve seen the cleanup guy come up with the game on the line and three consecutive guys struck out."
Joe Girardi, manger of the Florida Marlins, said that they had their eye on Schmidt for a long time now, but couldn`t get him. Schmidt hasn`t lost since his third start of the year April 15 at Los Angeles. Marlins fans are hoping that Schmidt will lead their favorite team to new records and better performance. For the looks of things, their expectations might realize soon.
