Raptors Favor Jones over Williams
Alvin Williams won`t be playing for the Toronto Raptors as the team decided to sign guard Fred Jones in stead. This sudden decision comes days after John Salmons backed out from a deal with the Raptors and favored the Sacramento Kings. "This is a great opportunity for me. We`re putting together a really competitive team. I think the sky`s the limit for us," said the more than happy Jones.
Jones played for the Indiana Pacers for four seasons and will now step in to back up point guard T.J. Ford. The Raptors acquired Ford from the Milwaukee Bucks not long ago. Although the Raptors are changing their player arsenal, Williams won`t be part of that change. "I`m a little disappointed," Williams said. "I still wanted to play for the Toronto Raptors and give it one more chance, a last chance. Hopefully, I can get with another team and continue to play. If not, I`ll look forward to doing other things in my life."
Williams is Toronto`s all-time assist leader and second in games played. Williams averaged 9.3 points and 5.6 assists in a total of 417 games, after acquired from Portland. Williams will have to look for another contract now that the Raptors had a change of heart.
