Pekerman Gave Final Word to Argentina
Growing pressure by fans and soccer official in Argentina did not help and Jose Pekerman has decided not to continue as Argentina`s coach. The Football Association president announced on Wednesday that Perkerman has gave his final word. "Pekerman has told me he`s not going to continue with the national team," Julio Grondona said.
Following Argentina`s lose to Germany in the quarterfinals of the World Cup, Pekerman announced that he will not continue, but fans and officials in the Argentinean Football Association were positive that they could make him change his mind. That did not happen and Pekerman will not coach the national team.
`We`ll wait and see. We haven`t thought about this because it (the World Cup) is still very recent,` Grondona said. A few names have been mentioned for the position, with Diego Maradona to veteran Carlos Bilardo (the same coach who took Argentina to the title win in 1986). Pekerman is regarded as an excellent coach in Argentina, but was criticized for being too cautious during the match against Germany.
