Mourning Hints on Playing for Heat
Fans of the Heat will be happy to know that for Alonzo Mourning ? winning his first ever NBA championship is not enough and the player wants to defend his title as well. Mourning announced on Saturday that he plans to resign with the Heat to return to the next season. Mourning`s next season will be his 14th season playing professional basketball.
Most of the Heat called Mourning to resign and there was a growing lobby to make the 36-year-old center to stay. "Big Zo`s in good shape," Heat forward Dorell Wright said earlier this week. "I think Zo could play like five more years, to tell you the truth. Zo`s in great shape at his age. I hope he does come back, because he`s a good guy, a good teammate and a good voice to have in the locker room."
Mourning kept saying that the reason he was playing last season was to earn his first NBA championship. After achieving his goal, Mourning said that the decision whether to stay or leave would be made with his family. Full contract details haven`t been discussed yet and changes will surely be taken. Mourning played for a veteran`s minimum of roughly $1.1 million but this number will rise if Mourning decides to stay.
